Send a password securely

Turn a password into a link that works once, then destroys itself. Nobody else can ever see it, not even us.

Need someone to send you a password?

Share this page with them. They type the password here and send you back a one-time link, instead of putting it in a text or email.

For the geeks: how secure is it?

Your password is locked with AES-256-GCM encryption on your device before anything is sent. The key that unlocks it is the part of the link after the #. Browsers never send that part to a website, so our server only ever holds scrambled data it can't read.

When the link has been opened the number of times you chose, or when it runs out of time, the scrambled data is deleted for good. Nobody opens it before your friend does, because they have to tap “Reveal” first; link previews in chat apps can't use it up.

How it works

  1. 1Type the password. It's locked (encrypted) on your device before anything is sent.
  2. 2Send the link. Copy it, share it, or let us email it to your friend.
  3. 3It destroys itself. Once it has been opened, or when it expires, it's deleted for good.

Questions

Can pass.new see my password?

No. It's encrypted on your device, and the key is the part of the link after the #, which browsers never send to us. We only ever store scrambled data we can't read.

What if the link is opened by someone else?

It stops working for everyone once it has been opened the number of times you chose, so your friend will know if it was used before they got to it. Only send it to the right person.

Is it better than a text or email?

Yes. A password in a text or email stays in both inboxes, backups and sometimes the cloud, for years. This link works once, then there's nothing left to find.

Does it cost anything?

No. pass.new is free, with no account and no sign-up.
